Fun with Touposhop!
"Touposhop" is a proprietary program developed in the mid-1980s by the William Shatner School of Toupological Studies (specifically the "Department of Non-Toupular Cranial Approximology") to assist us in the creation of photographic approximations of Bill Shatner without his toupee. The technology was later licensed to the Adobe company and turned into Photoshop.
A while back, we brought you two such approximations (from the late 1960s) and now it's time for yet more Touposhop fun with the above image from the mid-1970s.

Pretty good. Except of you look at screencaps from Incubus, you can see that Shatner's hairline angles back from his temples to the top of his heal rather sharply. William Hurt has a similar hairline.
ReplyDeleteHe looks a bit like Jack Nicholson in the second pic. And the term Touposhop will surely become a household name (to me)
ReplyDeleteXD
Balding away again in Shatneritaville...
ReplyDeleteThere was a post not too long ago about a fellow on the TOS set who did caricature drawings of various actors, including Shatner.
ReplyDeleteMight be worth checking out and adapting here for the purposes of baldness estimation during that period.
Is that perhaps Jack Klugman's head this time? It's a good job, but I don't think Bill's hair loss followed this pattern.
ReplyDeleteI literally screamed when I saw these. Horrifying.
ReplyDeletePoor bald Bill.. not a pretty sight
ReplyDeleteWhose donor head did we use this time? Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer - two things in common with Bill Shatner; both are Jewish and both have/had slightly dishevelled curly brown hair. :) -ST
ReplyDeleteI think he'd look better without the toupee if these touposhops are any indication of reality...
ReplyDeleteAt this point, Shatner's toupees are historical facts anchoring the timeline. Remove the TJ Curley from the '80s and the Soviets would have won the Cold War. Look it up.
ReplyDeleteWould still hit that.
