Shatner's toupee in pop-culture: Mad magazine.

A 1994 issue of Mad magazine published around the time of the release of the movie Star Trek: Generations. Two bald captains, one captain's chair and one toupee that Patrick Stewart, alias Captain Jean-Luc Picard, is apparently attempting to tear off his predecessor's head!

On a related note, reader "Toup-eh?" pointed to this YouTube clip, in which, at around 3:55, actor Jonathan Frakes describes Generations as "The story of two captains in search of one good hairpiece."

  2. I see Bill is inspired by Adorno today. It was Kant the other day. Who will it be next? Think I might suggest Hegel.

  3. The Mad magazine parodies deserves a full toupological analyses. I mean, how those artists were drawing Bill's toupee..?

  4. I've said it before - the site should conduct a full toupological analysis for every TOS episode.

An example of the durability of the Jim Kirk lace is 'The Omega Glory'. There was a number of fight scenes Shatner shot. Conversely, there could've been a number shots where the toupee might have ripped off, or loosened from his head.

Heck, perhaps ST would consider opening up some positions for toupological analyst. I'm sure the place is stocked up with 'em, though I'm sure there would be lots of people who'd love to take on the role. :)

  6. "How can I become a toupologist?" Just put your cranium up your backside. Then you know you're headed in the right direction.

  7. I recall the Mad magazine satire of Wrath of Khan. Bill´s toup was really funky on it

  8. @BaldyB- Early in life I had to choose between medical school or becoming a toupologist. Toupology was far too complex a discipline so I took the easy way out. Today I wondered if I had applied myself more, I might have toupascope of my very own. Thankfully the folks at Shat Toup have done all the heavy lifting. My advice is, if you can devote years of studying, grueling final exams and thousands of dollars in tuition, toupology might be for you. My best, (Dr) Most Jerk.

I just came across these shocking and extremely unfair articles and thought you might be interested:

  10. Very unfair. especially since Shat could buy many $25,000 wigs and not even miss the money.

  11. "Cooler heads eventually prevail and our toupologists finally begin to calmly and methodically asses (sic) the true import of this extraordinary image."

See, being a toupologist DOES have something to do with being an ass.
