How high is too high?

Bill Shatner's hairline has been pretty fluid over the decades and rather like the Dow Jones Industrial Average, there have been both highs and lows. One example of a high (in this case, highs are bad in terms of concealing baldness) is the 1965 Esperanto film Incubus. During one or two shots in that movie, it seems as if the lace was placed unusually high up on Shats' forehead.

But that is nothing compared to a couple of other images we have found where hitherto unseen areas of scalp have had a rare exposure to the outside world.

You've all seen the courtroom movie where a case doesn't appear to be going to well, but then a shocking new piece of evidence is presented leading to a collective gasp in the courtroom. Then, in light of this damning new evidence, the prosecution or defense (depending on the scenario) has no choice but to concede. OK, here goes...

Two images from the 1972 TV movie The People (Shats actually spends much of the film in a hat).

We also have an image of Shats with his second wife Marcy Lafferty in 1980.

If we zoom in, we see that again the toup seems to have been placed just a little too high revealing a few square centimeters that no man has seen before.

Now, if we take one of the images from The People and match it with an image of Shats' current hairline...

Gasp! "Your Honor, the hairline from 1972 is further back than the hairline of today when in fact it should be the other way round! How could that possibly be unless the new hairline isn't real!

Murmur, murmur in the audience...cue the Scooby Doo gang doing something that they really shouldn't to poor Bill Shatner.

Shatner angrily turns to the judge: "I would have gotten away with too if it hadn't been for those pesky kids!"

Okay, this post is getting a little silly! Hopefully at least Denny Crane would be proud of us...

  1. I don't believe those toupee styles were really very effective. They're just too distracting. It's as if the toup is constantly asking the viewer "just how bald is the guy who's wearing me"?
Shatner went overboard in the other direction later on when the rugs he wore started to extend down to the middle of his forehead.

  2. The pic with 2nd wife Marcy reminds me of James Garner. Though some say Shat now looks like another celebrity http://tiny.cc/503qF

  3. What strikes me about that photo from Incubus is how Shatner's hairline (his real one) angles back sharply at the temples. It's very similar to William Hurt's hairline, and somewhat similar to the younger Jason Alexander's.

  4. He might have had to vary it slightly in order to avoid skin irritation. I mean, he's gluing this thing on to the same spot on his head every day. That can't be good for your skin. Only by letting the toup migrate north and south for the winter can painful skin overgluesage be avoided.
